Our story

_______

Jersey Functional Fitness Association (JFFA) is the national governing body for competitive functional fitness in Jersey.

JFFA is a non-profit organisation whose mission is to promote and grow functional fitness as a competitive sport in Jersey, Channel Islands. We are an official member of the International Functional Fitness Federation.

It is our responsibility to create rules, standards, and guidelines for governing competitive functional fitness in Jersey. Our mission is to create competitive opportunities for athletes of all ages and ability levels. We are focused on enhancing the competitive experience for the athletes, judges, coaches, and spectators.

Through the Online Qualifier and the National Championships, we assemble the functional fitness national team that represents Jersey which will send its own independent contingent of athletes to iF3 international events, and then eventually to multi-sport events such as the Commonwealth Games once the sport gains entry.

In the case of inclusion in an eventual Olympic Games, qualification and representation by any Jersey athletes would flow through the national federation representing Great Britain.

The Sport

_______

Competitive Functional Fitness is a sport which tests athletes’ proficiency across a variety of movement patterns, activities, and energy systems. Athletes must show their competency in various realms, including demonstrations of their strength, strength endurance, speed, bodyweight/gymnastics skill, and aerobic capacity.

In each competition, athletes are presented with various tasks, each of which require the completion of a certain amount of work (i.e. number of repetitions of a given movement). The athletes then attempt to complete the required movements and repetitions as fast as possible. The athlete who completes the work the fastest is the winner of that task.

Functional Fitness athletes showcase resiliency, in that they can perform to their max potential through the expression of strength, power and endurance.

The Rulebook

_______

The competition rules specify the conduct and behaviour of athletes during functional fitness competitions. The goal is to create an atmosphere of sportsmanship, equality, and fair play as well as provide safety and protection for the athletes. It emphasises movement quality and skill without unduly limiting the athlete’s freedom of action and penalises actions that otherwise confer an unfair advantage.

Movements Standards

_______

JFFA complies with the movement standards enforced by the iF3. Any movement listed and described within the document is eligible for inclusion in iF3 Sanctioned Events in the 2023 competition season. The following document sets forth the general regulations applicable to a collection of the most common otherwise notable athletic tasks employed and evaluated for purposes of iF3 sanctioned events.
